The cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) is the main stabilising ligament of stifle (knee) joint, stopping the abnormal movement of the tibia bone. (Smith, Clegg, Innes and Comeford 2014). Main symptoms are lameness, non-weight baring of the effected hind limb, inability to sit straight and pain. A vet will be able to diagnose if you suspect your dog has damaged it CCL. Physiotherapy can aid in the recover post-surgery or conservative management.

  • Improve the range of motion of the knee joint.
  • Strengthening the hind limb muscles to support the stifle (knee) joint.
  • Gait retraining to help the dog move better and reduce symptoms.
  • Advice on lifestyle, weight management and environmental changes that can reduce the symptoms and prevent re injury.
