Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) is a common source of back pain amongst dogs of a variety of breeds, however certain breeds such as Dachshunds, Basset Hound and German Shepherds can be predisposed to the condition. Symptoms can vary depending on where the lesion is in the spine but can include pain, ataxic (wobbling uncoordinated movement), inability to use one or multiple limbs, incontinence, and possible paralysis.
